Trumpet Pitchers (Sarracenia) for Beginners
Trumpet pitchers are such a colourful and eye-catching addition to any plant collection! These upright-growing Sarracenia species and crosses have a real presence. In our ‘for beginners’ range, we offer seed-grown and divided trumpet pitchers that are at least 3 years old (about 7-10 cm in summer) and come in two sizes. You’ll find a mix of species, classic hybrids and crosses with parrot and purple pitchers, giving them that iconic upright form and firmly placing them in the trumpet pitcher category
Since trumpet pitchers are summer growers, they need a winter rest to store up energy for spring. During the colder months, they go dormant, so you won’t see much growth. We clean up any dead material before shipping, and send the plants as clean, dormant winter bulbs, with trimmed pitchers and just a hint of growth visible above the soil. When spring arrives, they’ll start growing again from their underground bulb (rhizome), ready for the new season!
