RARE! SUNDEW: Drosera Prolifera (Queensland triad)

Product Details

Rare Rainforest Sundew – Part of the Queensland Triad!

Drosera prolifera is a tropical rainforest sundew and part of the famous Queensland Triad, along with Drosera adelae and Drosera schizandra. Known as the "hen and chicks" sundew, this plant forms natural colonies by producing plantlets along its runners.

Native to the shaded, humid forests of northeastern Australia, this species prefers cooler, high-humidity conditions with low to moderate light. It’s ideal for terrariums, highland-style setups, or bright windowsills — making it a fantastic choice for intermediate growers or collectors ready to take their setup to the next level.

Why Grow Drosera prolifera?

  • ✔ Part of the iconic Queensland Triad – Tropical rainforest sundews
  • Unique growth habit – Forms runners and spreads into clusters
  • Rare in cultivation – Imported from Best Carnivorous Plants (Czech Republic)
  • Terrarium favourite – Awesome for open or closed setups and controlled environments
  • Grows year-round – No winter dormancy required

How to Care for Your Plant

LIGHT:

  • Prefers low to moderate light with bright indirect sun or artificial light (12–16 hours/day)
  • Ideal for terrariums and paludariums, sunny windowsills or controlled highland setups

WATER:

  • Use distilled or reverse osmosis water only – avoids crown damage from humic acid buildup
  • Keep soil moist but not soggy. Let tray dry slightly between waterings to oxygenate roots

SOIL:

  • Grows best in nutrient-free, sphagnum-based carnivorous plant soil
  • Repot every 9–12 months or when roots start crowding the pot

FEEDING:

  • No feeding required – plant will catch fungus gnats and small insects in humid conditions
  • Do not fertilise or use tap water – this will harm or kill your plant

DORMANCY:

  • None – grows year round in stable conditions

Note: Sundews have fragile roots. If selecting the bareroot option, allow your plant time to settle after transplanting. Potted plants are pre-planted in our deluxe carnivorous soil and are ready to grow
