Grow it like a Pro!
Utricularia bisquamata is a petite terrestrial bladderwort native to parts of southern Africa, including South Africa. It forms a fine carpet of tiny green leaves and produces cheerful, snapdragon-like flowers in shades of pale lilac with a yellow throat — small but delightful!
This species is perfect for adding life to carnivorous plant bog gardens and can be grown both indoors and outdoors. Just be sure to protect it from frost during the colder months.
As with other bladderworts, the carnivorous action happens underground. Utricularia bisquamata uses tiny, vacuum-like traps below the soil surface to catch and digest microscopic prey such as protozoa and nematodes — making it one of the most fascinating (and fastest!) carnivorous plants around.
You’ll receive a well-established 2cm plug, ready to pot up into your own setup or bog garden.
🪴 Growing Tips & Care Info
- 🔆 Grow in semi-shade or bright filtered light
- 🌿 Ideal for carnivorous plant bog setups or as a mini standalone feature
- 🪴 Pot into our Bladderwort PROmix™ or finely shredded, moist long-fibre sphagnum moss
- 💦 Use the tray method: stand pot in 0.5–1cm of water (rain, distilled, or RO water)
- 🚿 Keep evenly moist – never let the soil dry out
With the right conditions, your plug will slowly spread and fill its container. In summer, enjoy its dainty flowers — they add a cheerful pop of colour to any setup.
🌸 Flowering Info
Utricularia bisquamata typically flowers during the warmer months. Unlike flytraps or sundews, flowering does not significantly deplete its energy — so enjoy the blooms!
