Utricularia calycifida 'Asenath Waite' is a rare terrestrial bladderwort cultivar named after another character from the H.P. Lovecraft universe. This eye-catching form features large green leaves and elegant white flowers with finely marked patterns — making it a standout species in any carnivorous plant collection.
Native to parts of South America, Utricularia calycifida is prized for both its flowers and its foliage. This particular clone grows well in pots or trays and performs beautifully in bright, humid environments like terrariums or grow cabinets.
While the carnivory happens underground through tiny suction traps that catch microscopic soil organisms, the visual appeal of this species lies above the surface — in its broad leaves and striking floral displays.
This specimen is part of our original import from Best Carnivorous Plants in the Czech Republic. You’ll receive a well-rooted 2cm plug, ready to pot up in your own setup.
🪴 Growing Tips & Care Info
- 🔆 Bright filtered light or semi-shade – great for terrariums and windowsills
- 🌿 Grows well in high humidity and evenly moist soil
- 🪴 Use Bladderwort PROmix™ or finely shredded sphagnum moss
- 💧 Keep the soil moist at all times – never let it dry out
- 💦 Tray method: 0.5–1cm of rain, RO, or distilled water
Over time, this species will slowly spread to fill its pot. Flowering is triggered by warmer conditions and brighter light — expect a show in spring and summer.
🌸 Flowering Info
Utricularia calycifida 'Asenath Waite' blooms seasonally with white flowers, often finely patterned and orchid-like in shape. Flowering is not energy-depleting — feel free to let it bloom freely!
Personally imported and grown out at Cultivo, this plant is fully acclimatised to South African conditions. It’s more robust and better established than freshly imported stock.
Due to import restrictions, rare cultivars like this are hardly ever available in local collections. This is a limited release from our original BCP import.
