Product Details

Utricularia sandersonii (Large Flower form) is a delightful terrestrial bladderwort with cheerful, snapdragon-like blooms that appear on and off throughout the growing season. This larger-flowered form is especially eye-catching, with pale violet petals and a distinct “bunny ear” shape that makes it a favourite among growers.

Native to southern Africa, Utricularia sandersonii forms a dense, mossy mat of fine leaves and produces clusters of upright flower stalks once established. It’s one of the most rewarding bladderworts to grow — fast-spreading, beginner-friendly, and always full of character.

Like all bladderworts, it’s a true carnivorous plant, using underground bladder traps to suck in and digest microscopic soil organisms. But most growers love it for the charming flowers that pop up from spring through autumn.

This plug is part of our original BCP import and has been fully acclimatised in South Africa. You'll receive a well-rooted 2cm plug ready to pot up in your own carnivorous plant setup.

🪴 Growing Tips & Care Info

  • 🔆 Bright filtered light or semi-shade — great for windowsills and terrariums
  • 🌿 Ideal for bog setups or grown alone in a small pot
  • 🪴 Use Bladderwort PROmix™ or moist, shredded sphagnum moss
  • 💧 Keep the soil moist at all times — never let it dry out
  • 💦 Tray method: 0.5–1cm standing water (rain, RO, or distilled water)

Given the right conditions, this plant will quickly spread to fill its pot and flower regularly — often with more than one stalk at a time.

🌸 Flowering Info

The large-flowered form of Utricularia sandersonii is prized for its playful “bunny-shaped” blooms. Flowers appear in flushes throughout spring and summer — and unlike many carnivorous plants, flowering does not harm the plant or slow its growth.

Personally imported and grown out at Cultivo, this plant is fully acclimatised to South African conditions — stronger, more resilient, and ready to thrive in your care.

Due to strict import regulations, bladderworts are still rare in local collections. This exact form is part of our original BCP import and is rarely offered at this size and quality.
